MIKE JACKER
ABOUT ME
I am a retired orthopedic surgeon living in Highland Park, Illinois with my wife Laurie, our 30-year-old African grey parrot Zeke, and our Brittany spaniel Max. I cruise during the summer on Lake Michigan aboard Joliba, an Ericson 38 that we own with another couple. In addition to sailing, I love kayaking, flying sailplanes, boatbuilding, dancing, photographing local wildlife, inventing practical tools, and making short videos.
I have raced small sailboats since junior high school and have cruised in the Caribbean as well as the Great Lakes. Since my voyage to the South Pacific in 1976, I sailed to the Marquesas once again, as a crew member aboard a 44 foot sailboat in 2015.
Taken by the Wind is my first book.

Check out my article, A Wright Brothers Moment, in August, 2021, Small Boats magazine about an experimental hydrofoil sailboat that I built with friends in 1972-3.
